This is not exactly Martin's Cove but I missed it in the previous post. Crazy how the tabernacle looks so big on TV but small in person. Very patriotic!

We stayed at a really nice place in Rock Springs, WY on July 4th. We watched a few fireworks outside the window. Hans is eating leftovers from dinner. The kids got to swim & sleep on a pull out couch which made one of them say "I wished we had one of these!". Haha!

All of the sudden Don asked Hans if he wanted to ride his bike the rest of the way & of course he did! The Elder at the information booth/gate said Hans was the first bike rider he had seen all day.
Devil's Gate is in the background.
Devil's Gate is in the background.
This is such a perfect quote for this sacred place! The spirit is so strong here. You can just feel the faith, courage & determination those handcart saints had.
At Fort Seminole. We got our own private tour because we knew the missionaries. It was so fun hearing all the stories & the behind the scenes stuff.
This is the baptismal font. Knox found guppies. He really really wanted to find a snake though.
The beautiful grounds at the visitor center.
Grandpa teaching us.
Rennlie chasing bunnies. There were a lot of them around.
I guess Hans is drawn to podiums? This is the chapel where we watched a movie, the trekkers have orientation & we had sacrament meeting on Sunday.
In the visitor center. Grandma was teaching us. They were finding the Sun Ranch brand that was in the fireplace.
The night we got there they had a BBQ, patriotic program & flag retirement. It was neat to see the patriotism. There were just under 20 veterans serving there.
The Trek!
The rescuers statues were really neat.
We learned more stories here. Rennlie rode in the handcart for maybe a mile but want to walk or have me carry her the rest of the way. She wasn't the happiest of campers. She cried a lot!
At the handcart parking the boys tried out the pump. You can see the covered picnic area in the background where we ate lunch after we hiked the Cove.
The reason there was handcart parking is because Martin's Cove is actually located on BLM land. You can't bring anything with wheels & have to stay right on the paths.
This was a station right in the cove. Very humbling, sacred place. Rennlie's crying helped distract me a little or I probably would have been emotional the entire time. You can just feel those pioneer spirits & its hard to imagine going through what they did. It was all for the gospel & hopes of having their saving ordinances done when they reached the valley. They wanted to be with their families forever. Makes it hard to complain about anything we are asked to do.
One of the few things that kept Rennlie quiet.
The boys didn't complain about going through it at all. They actually hardly complained the entire trek. I was proud of them.
Rennlie finally rode in the handcart on the way back from the Cove. She was asleep as my mom & I did the women's pull up the hill at the end.
Renn was asleep before I shut the truck door. We wore her out. That was a lot of walking for a 2 year old.
Later that afternoon we went to Independence Rock & walked around it. It was raining when we got there so there were some neat rainbows in the sky.
The boys of course hiked over the middle of it.
We decided that it was named after Rennlie with all her Independence she showed earlier that day. So this was her cave.
Wyoming is a pretty barren place but there are neat things there too.
A very wonderful vacation. Lots more pictures that I hope to make a book with soon.
